Advocacy
Advocacy is the heart of PTA. We stand together for every child. Your National PTA and Washington State PTA work tirelessly to advocate on behalf of all children. The Washington State PTA top five legislative priorities for the upcoming legislative session are:
-
Increase Access to Nursing, Mental Health, and Social Emotional Learning Staff
-
Support Students and Preserve Education Funding
-
Increasing Educational Equity by Closing the Digital Divide
-
Supports and Funding for Students with Disabilities and Their Families
-
Prevent and Reduce Gun Violence and Suicide
Locally, the Islander Middle School PTSA has adopted resolutions and stands with National PTA to address systemic and institutional racism. We have created a new board position, VP of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to help us in our efforts.
We also work on:
as well as school funding, equity in education, safe routes to school, and many other issues that impact our children and those in our community.
