Back-to-School Day at IMS

Event Schedule:  This drop-in event is intended to help students prepare to come Back 2 School! All students should attend with a parent/guardian and can expect stations to be completed in 30 minutes. You may come at any point during your time slot, but please remember, it is much busier at the beginning of each session. 

 

10:30 am – 12:30 pm     Students with last name A-L
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm       Campus will be closed to students and parents
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm         Students with last name M-Z

 

Please attend the time slot that corresponds to your student’s last name. If you need to attend the alternate session, we will do our best to accommodate you, however, please recognize it will take longer for you to complete tasks as paperwork is organized alphabetically. 

 

 

TO Do Before Back-to-School Event

 

 

Reminder: Mercer Island School District is using RSVP and it can be accessed through Skyward. RSVP is an online system for families to use to complete required paperwork. The RSVP system will go live on Monday August 14th. All on-line forms should be completed BEFORE the Back-to-School Event on August 23rd.

 

Please complete the following 4 steps online by August 23rd. (Note that you will not be able to print off your student’s schedule until RSVP is completed.):

 

 

Step 1: Verify and update Skyward information. This includes:

 

● Verification of the RSVP process, opens August 14th (review guide here). (Required of all students.)

● Completion of the iPad Acceptable Use Agreement. (Required of all students.)

Opportunity to add money to your child’s Food Services Account.

 

Login to Skyward: http://www.q.wa-k-12.net/mercer

Click the "Go to RSVP" link. A step-by-step RSVP Checklist will appear on the right. Each step is a hyperlink with information to be verified or to be completed. (Required of all students.)

 

Add money to your child’s Food Services account. (optional, online or by check)

1. Select “Food Service” on the left hand side of the screen.

2. Select the option to select “Make a Payment.”

3. Follow prompts.

4. If paying by check, students can give a check to kitchen staff before school or during lunch time. 

 

If you do not know your login and/or password or if you are creating it for the first time, click on "Forgot your login or password?" link.

1. Enter your email address (the one you provided at the time of registration).

2. Click on the submit button.

3. Your personal login and password will be sent to your email address.

Step 2: Pay School District Fees via the InTouch System:

 

● Pay any fines from previous school year(s)

● iPad insurance Fee (suggested for all students / online only)

● Student ASB Fee (required for all students / online only)

 

Funds gathered from ASB (Associated Student Body) cards are used for items that are so vital to a middle school experience including:

     Opportunities for students to engage in clubs and activities;

     The ability to provide rewards and incentives for students throughout the year;

     Reduced fees for school yearbooks;

     Sports, lunch time activities and other co- and extra- curricular options.

 

● 2023/24 Yearbook Fee (optional, students receive yearbooks in June / online only)

● Sports Fees (for students participating in fall sports, online only)

● Class Fees - Art, PE, Aerospace, Music (New this year: Class fees will be posted to your student’s account in September.)

Go to https://wa-mercerisland.intouchreceipting.com/

1. Enter login and password, click on Student’s name

2. Under “shop,” click on “Items at Student’s School”, select items, click on Buy

3. When finished, follow checkout prompt and payment

 

Step 3: Join the PTA and make suggested donation, order gator books, corporate match

1. Go to IMS PTSA’s Store & Directory (imsptsa.org)

2. Follow prompts for directory information 

3. Open Back2School packet and make selections for Membership, Gator Giving, Gator Books, etc.

4. Order Spiritwear (https://islanderptsa.membershiptoolkit.com/ims-spirit-wear)

 

Step 4: Order school pictures. (optional, online orders only)

1. Visit https://www.mydorian.com/order for online ordering and exclusive package options. Type in “Islander Middle School”, click on the picture date to view the order form.

2. Retakes - Make Up Photo Day is September 18th, Retake Day is October 16th.

 

Come to the event on 8/23 in order to complete the following tasks:

● Pick up Student Class Schedules

● Have your student ASB photo taken. (Required) 2023-2024 ASB cards will be handed out the 2nd week of school. (ASB fee must be paid online in advance)

● Visit the nurse, Karla Rimmer, to drop off medications, doctor’s notes or forms.

● Pick up your personal iPad (6th grade and new families to MISD only)

● Parents: Get information about joining the PTSA/PTSA donations, gator books, and corporate match

● View the IMS Spiritwear collection. Order online only.

● Learn about community activities and events.

● Receive information about Fall Sports including cross country and girls volleyball (Sports forms and sports participation fees should be completed online prior to the season starting. Find out more about our sports and download forms here: https://ims.mercerislandschools.org/student-life/athletics). Please note, Volleyball and Cross Country start on the first day of school.

● Check out the IMS clubs and activities table. Find Clubs and Activities online at https://ims.mercerislandschools.org/student-life

● Take a self-guided tour and find your classes.

  

 

Note: The first day of school is an early release Wednesday.

 

6th Graders and WEB leaders 7th Graders and 8th Graders (non-WEB)
  1. School begins at 8:25 am
  2. School ends at 1:20 pm
  3. Lunch from 10:55–11:20 am
  4. Bus routes run as normal
  1. School begins at 11:25 am
  2. School ends at 1:20 pm
  3. No lunch will be provided at school
  4. AM bus routes will run exactly 3 hours later than normal
